• Show dates: Friday, October 21-Friday, November 4, 2011. • Drop off deadline: Sunday October 16th from noon –4:00 PM, 774 Santa Fe Drive. You may also drop off work ahead of time during regular gallery hours prior to 10/16/11. • Take down Sat. November 5th, 2011 from 12-4 PM
Requirements: Work must be based on the cultural theme of the day of the dead. Work must be professionally framed and ready to hang. Art must be suitable for a family friendly environment. Limit 4-6 pieces per artist. Please be mindful of sizes, we are expecting a lot of art! We will make every attempt to hang all the artwork that we can! Artwork may be refused if deemed inappropriate for the exhibit. We are encouraging schools and kids to participate in this exhibit! Altars-We are encouraging small altars due to limited space. Prices start at $10.00. Sunday set up only! Entry fees: • Free for members, with a donation to our wish list. • $15 for two entries for non-members. • Schools and other programs $25.00, or we can work with your budget. Opening Reception: Friday, October 21th, 2011 6:00pm – 9:00pm Featuring traditional Mexican refreshments, Aztec Dancers and face painting! Volunteers are needed for this event. We could use your help in several areas such as…hanging, decorating, set up, gallery sitting, reception, sales, food and beverage support, kids art projects and gallery tours. OFERENDAS / ALTARS Have someone who you would like to honor or commemorate this Dia de los Muertos? A great way is to create an oferenda! Crown Hill is hosting the third annual El dia de los Muertos Celebration and will display oferendas as part of the celebration. We are looking for six oferendas/altars: categories include traditional, contemporary and artistic. Guidelines include: table top and free standing, must not be larger than 5 feet long and 4 feet wide (there will be some floor space). Displays should be reasonably family friendly. If you are interested in submitting an oferenda/altar for display, please email Crown Hill Location Manager Bill Logan at william.logan@dignitymemorial.com with a brief summary of your idea by Friday, Sept. 9, 2011. Please include your daytime contact information. In the event of a huge response, decisions will be based on your summary description.
ARTISAN/VENDOR BOOTHS In addition to food, fun, entertainment and celebrating those who have passed before us, Crown Hill’s 3rd annual El dia de los Muertos Celebration will again host Day of the Dead artist and vendor booths. Booth fees are $45.00 per booth. Wares should be primarily El dia de los Muertos related, but other work by the artist is welcome. Exhibitor space includes one eight (8) foot-long table. Exhibitors are encouraged to bring a canopy to shade from sun and protect from inclement weather. Register early - only 24 spaces available! A Fresh Look at Death. A 6 week hands on therapeutic art workshop exploring concepts and viewpoints of death and life from ancient and modern Mexican perspectives.

"A Fresh Look at Death" The following therapeutic art workshops exploring death and life are
offered by CHAC & Heart Therapy in conjunction with Dia de los
Muertos. Classes are lead by Certified Systemic Art Therapist, Art & Museum
Educator, Julie Marino.
Come to one, two, or all workshops. Drop
ins are now welcome. Teacher Recertification credit is available for
these workshops through Adams State College. If you attend 4 workshops
you will receive one half Teacher Recertification credit. Thursdays, October 6-November 10, 2011. 6:30-8:30pm
To
the Mexican mind, death is viewed as a transition of life, a normal
stage in the circle of life on earth, and a natural progression…not an
ending. The goal of these art making workshops is to: • Shed some light on the subject of death by taking a look at another culture’s perspective, namely Mexico. • Grapple with your own views / fears of death • Provide an avenue to grieve the loss of a loved one • Experience the benefit of group interaction • Complete the course with a renewed sense of living life to the fullest
October 6: Duality-Life &Death October 13: The Mayan view of the cycle of Life and Death October 20: Christ’s view of Death and Life October 27: Fears of Death and Hopes of the Hereafter November 3: Dia de los Muertos and commemorating the death of a loved one November 10: Accepting our own mortality and living life to the fullest
Cost is $30.00 per
class and includes all art materials. No art experience necessary.
